When I first came to Maryland I wasn't sure how long it would take me to get used to the campus and my new schedule, but after a few weeks I knew the campus pretty well and it felt like I had been here for months (although I still get lost in the basement of the math building, but that's another story). The campus seemed really big at first, and while there are a lot of buildings, it usually takes less than ten minuets for me to walk between buildings (I actually really enjoy the walks outside between classes). Although it definitely took some time to adjust, I was surprised by how quickly college life became my new normal.
It is true that homework and projects take more time in college than in high school, but there's also more time to get work done. I usually have three to five hours of classes a day, and the rest of the time I'm free to work on projects, study with friends, or attend club meetings. Another thing that I've noticed about college is that time seems to go by extremely quickly. Hours, days, and weeks fly by.
Although there's always work to be done, there's also time to enjoy the beautiful campus and spend time with friends. It has been really cool to meet other students who are studying different subjects and who come from so many different backgrounds. I've also been able to get to know lots of other engineering and science majors. Although the classes can seem big at first and there are often several sections for 100 and 200 level classes, it is not hard to get to know your classmates.
